TEACCH
TEACCH Stands for Treatment And Education of Autistic and related Communication-handicapped CHildren. It is basically the idea of creating a predictable environment using visual supports. While creating a TEACCH model can be cumbersome and in some cases create more problems down the road, it can be helpful for reducing anxiety and disruptive behavior for individuals who are considered low-functioning.
Eric promotes the use of visual supports throughout the environment when the goal is to fade them overtime. More and more research is showing that support systems like TEACCH may actually increase an individual’s rigidness, making it more difficult to function independently in the community.
